Two Day Workshop
Aims and Objectives
The workshop will enable participants to learn about the foundation and growing applications of nanotechnology in many industries including the biotechnology, MEMS, optoelectronics, chemical and nanoelectronics industries. The workshop will also cover the challenges that nanotechnology poses to the academia and the industry.
Who Should Attend
Practitioners, researchers, educationists and students from any discipline of science and engineering interested to work in the field of nanotechnology are invited to join the workshop.

![]() Salhuddin Qazi |
Salhuddin Qazi holds a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of Technology, Loughborough, England, UK. He is currently working as an Emeritus Professor and past chair of School of Information Systems and Engineering Technology at the State University of New York Institute of Technology, Utica, New York. Dr. Qazi has coauthored a handbook of Research on “Solar Energy Systems and Technologies” for which he has also written a chapter of “Use of Nanotechnology for Photovoltaic Energy”. The handbook was published in August 2012 by IGI Global of Hershey, PA. He has recently completed a NSF funded project on “Visualization and Manipulation of Nanoscale Components using Low Cost AFMs” and co-edited a CRC handbook on “Nanotechnology for Telecommunications”. He has published several articles, book chapters in the area of fiber doped amplifiers, wireless security and optical wireless communications. Dr. Qazi has participated as an invited speaker and presenter in several international conferences and workshops. He was a CO-PI for a US-Pakistan conference on “High Capacity Optical Networking and Enabling Technology” which was jointly supported by National Science Foundation (NSF) of USA and Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. He is recipient of several awards including William Goddel award for research creativity at SUNYIT and engineering professionalism by Mohawk Valley Engineering Executive Committee. Dr. Qazi is a life member of IEEE and of American Society of Engineering Education. |

Ahmed S. Khan is a senior Professor in the College of Engineering & Information Sciences, DeVry University, Addison, Illinois. He received his M.Sc (applied physics) from University of Karachi, MSEE from Michigan Technological University, and MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management, and his Ph.D. from Colorado State University. His research interests are in the areas of Nanotechnology, Fiber Optic Communications, Application of Telecommunications Technologies in Distance Education, and Social and Ethical Implications of Technology. Dr. Khan has authored/co-authored the following books: Nanotechnology: Ethical and Social Implications(2012): Technology and Society: Issues for the 21st Century and Beyond 3E (2008); Fiber Optic Communication: An Applied Approach, Prentice Hall, N.J.(2002); Technology and Society: A Bridge to the 21st Century (2002); Technology and Society: Crossroads to the 21st Century(1996); Technology and Society: A Spectrum of Issues for the 21st Century(1994); The Telecommunications Fact Book and Illustrated Dictionary (1992). Dr. Khan is a senior member of the IEEE and ASEE. |

Amir Habib holds a Ph.D. degree in Technical and Analytical Chemistry from Vienna University of Technology, Austria. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at University of Sciences and Technology-NUST. He received his M.Sc from Govt. College, Lahore. His research interests are in areas of Sol gel Synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles and thin film on glass to exploit the photo catalytic activity, Synthesis and characteristics of High-k dielectric BaTiO3 Nanoparticles, Fabrication and characteristics of organic photovoltaic, Fabrication and characterization of Electro spun nano fibers. |

Technology Scope
Nanotechnology has many commercial applications in the area of computer technology, health care, manufacturing, environmental cleanup, agriculture and others. It already has significant impact in countless industries and its full implementation will have broad economic and social impact. Innovative materials, components and systems based on nanotechnologies are recognized as promising growth innovators for the years to come. From a macro economic growth perspective, it is important to facilitate the ability to exploit the innovative and added value of nanotechnology into practical applications.
